What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a therapy performed by a chiropractor in order improve and restore the alignment of your spine, decreasing pain and enhancing function of your nervous system. Your nervous system comprised of your brain, spinal cord and 31 sets of nerves that exit the spinal cord. This system is what controls the function of your entire body and is protected by the strong bones of your skull and vertebral column. When these protective structures misalign, an unhealthy amount of pressure can be put on your nervous system making your body unable to function optimally. The nerves that exit your spinal cord can become ‘choked’ or ‘pinched’ causing pain signals to fire and inhibit the proper messages being sent to the rest of your body. These misalignments, or “subluxations”, can cause inflammation around nerves and affect the flow of information through them, leading to pain, weakness and a decrease in quality of life.
At Wellness Way Chiropractic in Burlington, we correct these problems in the spine and extremities by applying a gentle, specific force to the joint involved moving the body into the correct position. This gentle, low-force adjusting technique is both safe and effective for patients of all ages ranging from children to seniors. Depending on your condition, certain stretches and strengthening excercises may be prescribed in order to help you maintain the alignment of your spine following treatment.
